Greetings- I found you on HBT looking for info on how to make cider. There is soo much info, too much for a newbie. I was wondering if you could tell me the difference b/w cider and apfelwein? Are they the same thing w/ different names. I am trying to decide what to try, I was thinking about (1Gal) EdWorts Apfelwein or the Southern Sweet Cider and now that I am here, CiderBock. Do you think the Southern Sweet and Ciderbock are similar in taste/sweetness? Any suggestions for a newbie??? One more thing, which one would I be able to drink first :) Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated- thanks.

This one isn't a true 'verde' either but I guess it's closer to 'verde' than to 'rojo' :)

John - this looks very similar to a chili I used to get in East LA when we lived in Southern California. This was called a 'verde' on the menu. I believe they used this term on their own, i.e., it was not a true verde.

I want to see breweries start making new specialty beers that are based on malt complexities rather than overpowering amounts of hops. It seems to me that ALL new specialty beers are hop heavy.

John - good pick. A few years ago a relative from Philly brought down a case of mixed Victory beers. Hop Devil was included. The case lived a short life.

Drinking one now. Best link via Google to explain the bliss to a friend! If you have Krogers where you are, they keep a pretty good selection of the Rogue XS. Probably 4 or 5 different varieties in vast quantity (Morgantown, WV). Although, I will say, I prefer the Imperial Red Ale.

Left Hand is another one of my favorites. I have liked everything I have tried from them.

I am also left handed, so I may be slightly influenced.

I do love a good barley wine, AND I love a good bourbon barrel aged ale. Are those floating around up there again this time of year? If so, any chance you\'d be up for some trades here and there? Not sure whats down here that you can\'t grab there, but I can sure find out.
