OHB Bardstown Brand Ale
I stopped by the Olde Hickory Brewery this afternoon to pick up a couple brews. The first one on the schedule is the Bardstown Brand Ale, which is a 10% barley wine. From the bottle:
This Barley Wine is a special ale aged in oak bourbon barrels from the heard or Kentucky's Bourbon Country. The long maturation of the beer in the bourbon barrels makes for a uniquely American Ale, offering robust and rich flavors. We hope you will enjoy this find hand crafted ale. This ale will age well and will improve as the years pass, just like fine bourbon.
I have to admit something here... Until tonight, I had never tasted a barley wine. My rather in-depth knowledge of the brews produced by the Olde Hickory Brewery tells me that this is probably an excellent and well above average example of a fine barley wine, but it's just not a style that I like. Hopefully someone who appreciates this style can elaborate on it and let us know how good it really is :)
